Treating Agoraphobia

Having suffered from agoraphobia myself I tried all kinds of agoraphobia treatment. My experience of agoraphobia is that it is a form of panic and anxiousness disorder that is caused by the fear of not being in control. It is essentially the phobia of panic and nervousness itself. You consistently fear going outside of your zone of comfort in case you feel as though you are losing control and will have a panic attack. As a result many of us with agoraphobia live their lives really close to home and some aren't even able to leave their houses without being gripped by panic.
Agoraphobia is like all of the panic and anxiousness problems in that it simply an over stimulation of the flight or fight response. The sufferer simply perceives there to be upcoming danger in all types of circumstances and this triggers the nervousness response. Anxiousness is a natural response that is designed to alert us to danger so that we can take action to move out of harm’s way. But this reaction is triggered all too fast in folks with agoraphobia.
There are numerous different treatments for agoraphobia.
I personally don’t consider medicine treatment as that only suppresses the symptoms instead of offering a cure.
Many of us have had success with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. This is usually the therapy of choice among mental fitness consultants who cope with people with agoraphobia. It tries to help the individual conquer their stress by taking command of the negative thoughts before they get out of control and bring on the anxiety symptoms.
Exposure treatment is another treatment that may be particularly impressive for treating agoraphobia. It aims to alleviate the individual’s anxiety by continuously exposing them to circumstances which make them fearful. The individual is taught to use relaxation techniques to control their anxiety. With enough exposure the individual will most likely begin to feel more relaxed in scenarios when they experience them with reduced stress symptoms.
However this is often an especially challenging therapy for people with severe agoraphobia.
The simplest way to stop anxiety is to be in a relaxed mental state as a calm mind is less easily triggered into a stressed state.
So any kind of relaxation such as yoga or meditation is a good way to treat anxiety. The breathing exercises in yoga are especially helpful when you're feeling agitated as one of the leading indicators of anxiousness and panic episodes is fast breathing.
Breathing methods that slow down the breathing with deep breaths work great to relieve stress. They may be employed when you're out if you begin to feel anxious.
One of the most efficient agoraphobia treatments is hypnotherapy. This may help the individual as the therapist will reprogram the base subconscious thought processes that cause the stress. However folk with agoraphobia fear losing control and the thought of hypnotherapy can make some people feel a bit like they'd lose control.
