Talking with Nabaztag – Conversations with companions
by on Dec.27, 2009, under Health and Fitness
COMPANIONS aim to change the way we think about the relationships of people to computers and the Internet by developing a virtual conversational ‘Companion’. This will be an agent or ‘presence’ that stays with the user for long periods of time, developing a relationship and ‘knowing’ its owners preferences and wishes. It will communicate with the user primarily by using and understanding speech, but also using other technologies such as RFID sensors. This demonstration shows a scenario with the implemented preliminary end-to-end functionality. For more information: www.companions-project.org

It’s an interesting concept, but it asks for a lot of confirmation and—on a more visceral level—this particular voice is a little perfunctory and sounds a little judgemental. I can imagine getting very irritated with it quite quickly.

This thing looks pretty cool, I’d like to see it IRL. I just hope it has a non-morning person switch.

This is very clever, but personally, I’d get incredibly irritated if my Wifi-Bunny quizzed me about exactly what I ate/drank; it feels judgmental.
