How To Shut Down Chronic Tension Headaches

by on Jul.23, 2010, under Uncategorized

The main culprits of chronic tension headaches are said to be stress and over-exertion. Working too hard for long hours can cause muscles in the upper part of your body, around the head and neck, to contract and tighten. This results in severe headaches.

Chronic tension headache can happen several times in a month. The harshness of the pain depends on the person, so no standard level can be drawn. It is common among people of all ages although more often seen in adults. You would know that your tension headache is regular if it happens several times a month and for a few months consecutively.  If mental issues are causing tension, they may be addressed through psychic readings. Same as the severity of the pain the duration also could vary from a few hours to couple of days.  Likewise, if sun exposure from your convertible is causing headaches, then consider a Saturn Sky windscreen windblocker wind deflector.

Chronic headaches and migraines however, can be distinguished clearly. It is important to be aware of these differences if you want to take over the counter prescriptions as drugs used for migraine do not always work for a chronic tension headache.

-  Chronic tension headache is not usually accompanied by slurred speech
-  Chronic tension headaches do not bring about vomiting or nausea
-  The pain is all over the head if you have a chronic tension headache, and not just a throbbing pain in one place
-  obstruct daily activities}

Loss of appetite, a dull pain in the head, tightness around the head and around the neck and shoulders and sometimes even fatigue and difficulty sleeping are some of the main symptoms of chronic tension headaches. Often, irritability and sensitivity to noise may also be a symptom.  If excess weight is a source of the tension, the Seattle HCG Diet can reduce weight.

Here are a few tips to help prevent the continuing occurrence of a chronic tension headache.

- Always preserve a good posture, especially if you are going to be in some place for a long period of time. Ensure that you re comfortable. Get yourself a comfortable chair or pillow to provide support for your neck and shoulders
-  Take steady breaks from work as working too hard can cause the headaches.
-  Exercise whenever possible
- Get enough sleep at night and here too, ensure that you re comfortable so as not to worsen the tightness in the muscles

Finally, see a doctor if you re headache becomes more frequent and severe. Although quite a few over-the-counter drugs do work, if the headache is persistent it s best to get the advise of a doctor, as it is likely to be a chronic tension headache.
