A Look At The Causes For Anxiety

Anxiety effects us emotionally, as well as in our minds and bodies.  Anxiety is a mind body state that causes changes both psychologically and physiologically.  With anxiety, we see changes in thoughts, emotions, the physical body and behavior.

Added together, the feeling of anxiety is quite unpleasant.  It is often called worry, uneasiness, fear, dread, being uptight, stress or apprehension..  

Anxiety is called a generalized mood condition.

It may feel unlikely, but when a person has anxiety, the anxiety cause of many times now known.  We often don’t know the trigger of our anxiety.

Fear and anxiety are different in that with fear, the danger is present and known.  When we are anxious, we may feel dread of an unknown threat, or that the treat is unavoidable.

Fear, on the other hand, is obvious – we can see or hear it.  And the reactions to fear are well known – fight, flight or freeze.  

Fear also distinguishes itself from anxiety by being about something in the present.  The anxiety cause is felt about things that we imagine in the future.

Compared to our ancestors, we are bombarded with causes for anxiety today!

Although we consider anxiety to be a normal reaction to stress, it does not serve us well in the present or future.

A sudden and intense form of anxiety is a panic attack. 

There are some typical reactions to anxiety, including irregular heartbeat, tight muscles, fatigue and exhaustion, shortness of breath, all sorts of digestive disturbances and headaches. Your body is reacting in a way that’s designed to give you the best chance of escaping or fighting the danger.

Your heart rate is increased, you begin to sweat, and instead of serving your digestion and immune system, your blood is supplies to your large muscles.

In addition to the physiological effects of anxiety, there are also mental and emotional effects.  Thoughts and emotions turn to looking for danger signs, imagining the worst, feeling jumpy and irritable, dreading the future and difficulty concentrating.  It may seem like situations and people are threats and dangerous. Thinking the same thing over and over is common.  When experiencing anxiety, you may even have thoughts of death.  When anxiety is present, people may interpret the physical symptoms as proof that they have a terminal disease.
