Saving Your Skin

May is Melanoma Awareness month, and epidemiologists at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center are reminding New Mexicans to protect their skin as they head outdoors this spring. Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer, accounting for more than 75 percent of skin cancer deaths. The vast majority of mutations found in melanoma are caused by ultraviolet radiation, and as UNM Epidemiologist Dr. Marianne Berwick points out, you shouldn’t rely on sunscreen alone to protect you .
