Don’t be one of the smoking statistics

Do you want to be part of the smoking statistics? Hmm… that is definitely not cool! You don’t want to be one of the 80,000 people who smoke every single day. Imagine how many sticks can they consume and how much they spend a day! Smoking has drawn too many people both young and old. As it was reported recently, smoking causes the death of one out of six people by 2030. We should not wait for that to happen and be responsible of getting rid of this habit. Let us be more aware about the effects it gives to our body as more statistics are revealed by the World Health Organization or WHO.

There are 4 million deaths around the world caused by smoking. Smoking statistics make it known to us that it affects any chain smoker and leads to death every eight seconds. It is not a surprise to all of us that cigarettes are advertised all the time and attracting too many consumers to buy and smoke. Sadly, commercialism is to be blamed for this.

Everyday, cigarettes are sold in a flash just like how hotcakes do. Did you know that cigarettes sell around 15 billion everyday? If you are to figure it out closely, 10 million sticks are selling per minute. According to the WHO, males dominate the smoking population with a ratio of two-thirds in the Western Pacific Region. It is pretty ironic though that in developing countries it proved to have more people smoking compared to developed countries. Tobacco use increased by 3.4 % for the former while a drop of 23% was recorded for the latter.

Even the younger population is lured to smoke. One in five teens in the age bracket of 13-15 smokes globally. Most of these teens come from Asia as smoking can get very addictive and can go a long way for up to 15 to 20 years. You can blame this from too much advertising made by most tobacco industries.

If you don’t stop smoking today, chances are you can be one of in the future smoking statistics! You do not want that, do you? You should know by now the horrible effects of smoking and that about a quarter of the remaining population in the Western Pacific Region can die from smoking.
